VLSI and intelligent transducers
Abstract
The concept of intelligent transducers and their interaction with VLSI technology is discussed. Some of the functions that intelligent transducers can perform when integrated with active signal-processing circuits are outlined. Intelligent sensors can be grouped into sensors with processing circuits and active devices to improve signal-to-noise ratio, and sensors with electronic circuits for signal processing and decision making to convert signals to various forms ready for further manipulation. Functions of intelligent transducers that are discussed include signal improvement functions, preprocessing of signals, signal processing, remote sensing and telemetering, logic and decision-making functions, power reduction schemes, and system parameter integration.
