Interaction of electromagnetic waves in a classical supergrating
Abstract
A method based on nonlinear optics is used to study the parametric interaction of electromagnetic waves propagating in a classical supergrating (i.e., a nonlinear artificial dielectric grating with an elementary semiconductor-dielectric cell); it is assumed that one of the waves (the pump wave) has a finite amplitude. A strict analytical expression for the polarization of the classical supergrating makes it possible to take into account multiquantum properties (important in strong pump fields) in the investigation of wave interaction. This strict analytical approach leads to the conclusion that such structures are suitable for use as nonlinear media for the parametric amplification and frequency conversion of millimeter and submillimeter radiation.
