The singular edge in problems of diffraction by inhomogeneities with a gyrotropic medium
Abstract
Two-dimensional problems of diffraction by inhomogeneities with a transversely magnetized gyrotropic medium (so-called problems of edges with anomalous losses) are considered. These problems are characterized by the presence of singular edges, including a wedge from a gyrotropic medium with different boundary conditions on its faces. Given a sufficiently strong magnetization, there exists an electromagnetic-field singularity in the case when losses in the gyrotropic medium are not taken into account. The field singularity at the edge leads to the presence of an energy flux directed toward the edge. The nature of the singular-edge phenomenon is investigated on the basis of an examination of the properties of unidirectional magnetostatic waves. Recommendations are presented on improving the convergence of numerical methods which are used to solve problems involving strong edge-singularities.
