Concerning the resolving power of radar stations with antenna arrays
Abstract
It is shown that the angular resolving power of a holographic radar can be increased twofold by the recording on the entire array aperture of holograms of all of the orthogonal signals radiated by the end elements of the array, and by the simultaneous reconstruction of the composite hologram. In other words, it becomes possible to combine in one device the simultaneous and continuous observation of all targets characteristic of holographic radars and the high angular resolution characteristic of phased-array radars. In order to separate signals of individual radiating elements on the receive side, these signals must be orthogonal with respect to time, frequency, or modulating function.
