The use of information criteria for the comparative evaluation of optimal phase meters
Abstract
An attempt is made to use criteria from information theory for evaluating the quality of optimal phase meters. It is shown that in the case of large signal-to-noise ratios in the phase meter channels, information criteria are reduced to the minimum-rms-error criterion. In the case of weak signals, the information criterion is proportional to the squared signal-to-noise ratio and contains no information on the measurement accuracy. The accuracy of several new types of phase meters is evaluated using information criteria.
