A Simple Model for the Synoptic Analysis of Cold Fronts
Abstract
A split cold front model, with an over‑running upper front (or humidity front) ahead of a surface front (or humidity front), is shown to provide a useful representation of the principal characteristics of many katafronts. The use of such a model leads to more consistent analyses, especially of cloud and rain, than are achieved using unmodified classical concepts.
