A notable achievement in the exploration of Venus
Abstract
The exploration of Venus by Venera 13 and Venera 14 during March 1982 is briefly discussed, with attention given to the details of descent and landing, and the performance of the planned experiments. Three tasks were successfully carried out: the direct determination of the chemical composition of aerosols in the cloud layer, the direct determination of the chemical composition of Venus rocks, and the transmission to earth of black and white and color panoramic photographs of the surface. A circular panoramic photograph, obtained at the Venera-13 landing site, is presented.
