Finite volume effects in SU(2) lattice gauge theories
Abstract
Monte Carlo methods are used to investigate finite volume effects in an SU(2) gauge theory formulated on a hypercubical lattice. As a consequence of the finite volume of the lattice, a deconfining phase transition analogous to the finite temperature phase transition is observed. The critical temperature is consistent with the value obtained by similar studies on asymmetric lattices. The importance of using large lattices in Monte Carlo simulation is emphasized.
