Physics, technology and applications of junction charge-coupled devices
Abstract
The properties of junction charge-coupled devices (JCCDs) are analyzed, and theoretical and experimental results are given. The basic principles of the three types of buried channel charge-coupled device are compared, with mention made of certain applications. Attention is also given to calculations on the potential profile in the JCCD, and a model offering a way to calculate this potential is described. It is shown that the JCCD cell can be scaled down considerably without causing distortions in the potential profile. Charge-injection and charge-detection structures are described, and experimental results are presented. The structures described are then applied in a parallel-in, serial-out programmable transversal JCCD filter, which is also described.
