A monolithically integrated wide-tunable sine oscillator
Abstract
The realization of an integrated wide-tunable harmonic sine oscillator with an oscillator integrated circuit having a four decade continuous sweeping range is described. A detailed theoretical investigation into the dynamic behavior of a second-order harmonic oscillator during sweeping is presented. The investigation produces a definition of the semiideal sine oscillator (SISO). The adventitious properties of an oscillator, such as stability, drift, and high-frequency tuning are studied for second-order oscillators, wide-tunable oscillators, and SISOs. Automatic volume control is also examined. Finally, the realization and implementation of a small-scale integrated version of the 'two integrator oscillator' is discussed in detail, including the design of all circuits. A complete circuit diagram is presented, and measurement results for the oscillator integrated circuit are presented and discussed.
