The possibility of using electromagnetic accelerators for studying processes occurring during the high-velocity collision of solids
Abstract
A change in the length of an accelerated cylindrical conductor due to thermal processes occurring at the points of contact with the current-carrying rails of the electromagnetic accelerator is analyzed. A closed system of equations is obtained which makes it possible to determine the parameters of an accelerated body during the collision. Based on experimental results, expressions for the relative height and the relative width of the crater are obtained as a function of the collision velocity for aluminum alloy AMg-6 and copper M1, demonstrating the possibility of using electromagnetic accelerators for investigating collisions of structural materials with cylindrical and spherical bodies.
