Nonself-sustained volume discharge in an intrinsic magnetic field
Abstract
A self-consistent system of equations describing a two-dimensional nonself-sustained discharge is solved in order to investigate the spatial uniformity of a volume discharge in an electron-beam-controlled laser. The distribution of ionization losses in the electron beam is determined by the Monte Carlo method. The results indicate the existence of an optimal magnetic field of the discharge current, in the case of which optimal spatial uniformity of the discharge is attained. Optimal geometry and discharge power are determined which make it possible to achieve maximum specific output power from a pulsed laser
