On the influence of solar faculae on solar flux variations.
Abstract
Recent measurements by Willson et al. (1981) of the variations in the solar radiation flux are analyzed. The strong (0.77) correlation with sunspot activity is confirmed. When the effects of the faculae are incorporated, the correlation increases further, reaching 0.80-0.83. Some arguments bearing on models of faculae are given. The results do not support Foukal and Vernazza's (1979) claim that the emergence of active regions on the sun lags the fluctuations in the solar constant approximately 1 d.
