Monte Carlo calculations of resonance-line formation in a plane layer
Abstract
Spectra are calculated for the radiation emerging from a plane layer in which a parallel beam of incident photons are scattered, for two cases: complete and incomplete frequency redistribution. If the incident photons are limited to the central frequency of a line, the reflected radiation will have different spectra in these two cases. The dependence of the source function (distribution of secondary sources within the layer) on the angle of incidence of the external photon beam is determined. The transmissivity and number of collisions are calculated as functions for the optical thickness of the layer.
