RIMS IIA, a precision roll stable platform for spinning vehicle guidance systems
Abstract
A high-precision, roll-stable platform used for guidance of spinning vehicles is described. The electromechanical design consists of a roll gimbal, tuned rotor gyros, accelerometers, gyro and gimbal heaters, gimbal mounted electronics, resolver, torque motor, roll gimbal mounting, slip ring assembly, vibration isolators, and moisture proof seal; each of these is described. The support electronics are packaged in a power supply module, a gyro servo module, and an I/O module; boards for most of the module subunits are graphically depicted. System performance parameters include total non-g sensitive drift less than 1 deg/hr compensable g-sensitive drift less than 1 deg/hr/g, roll servo accommodating roll rates of up to 3000 deg/s. Peak torquing of the pitch and yaw gyros permits rotations about those axes of + or 170 deg/s. The accelerometers have a range of 0-60 g's with resolution and threshold of 1 microgram and a total scale factor of less than 100 ppm. The platform is designed to withstand acclerations and shocks of up to 100 g's.
