Microwave network analyzers for millimetric bands
Abstract
The MNA series analyzer for networks operating above 18 GHz is described. The system incorporates six port measurement coupled with processing by microcomputers. An ideal six port system for determining the standing wave ratio of a received incident and reflected signal is analytically modeled. The six ports are divided into a port for measuring the incident signal, one for the reflected signal, an input port for the signal source, a measuring port to connect the device under test, and two ports for measuring the vector sums of the incident and reflected power at different phases. The MNA analyzer is designed to be user friendly, and provides a menu for choosing the types of microwave measurements which are listed. The components are a controller, a microwave oscillator, a sequence, control modules, and a microwave measurement module. Uncertainty is 0.006 at a standing wave ratio of 1.2:1 with a circle of confusion radius of less than 0.005.
