Applied nonlinear-optics: Second-harmonic generators and parametric light-generators
Abstract
A promising area of laser technology is investigated: the physics of processes in second-optical-harmonic generators (with extracavity and intracavity generation) and parametric light-generators. Relevant nonlinear-optical phenomena are reviewed, and optical schemes of second-harmonic generators and parametric light-generators are discussed. Particular consideration is given to the factors that affect the operation of such devices, including aperture effects, radiation focusing, birefringence inhomogeneity, thermal self-defocusing, the photorefractive effect, and multifrequency pumping.
