A Dorodnitsyn finite element boundary layer formulation
Abstract
The Dorodnitsyn formulation is given a finite element interpretation and is applied to three turbulent boundary layers: zero pressure gradient, adverse pressure gradient, and favorable pressure gradient. Solutions obtained with the Dorodnitsyn finite element formulation are compared with a Dorodnitsyn spectral formulation and a representative finite difference package STAN5 (Reynolds, 1975). The present finite element formulation for attached boundary layers produces a solution of comparable accuracy as that of STAN5, but is ten times more economical.
