The transmitting antennas of the broadcasting satellite TV-SAT
Abstract
An antenna concept was developed for the Federal Republic of Germany in response to rigorous requirements on the efficiency of transmitting antennas imposed during the WARC conference in 1977. The system involves an offset paraboloid reflector antenna illuminated by an elliptical corrugated horn. Polarization is circular, with a cross-polar supression better than 33 dB and a sidelobe level less than 30 dB. Results of optimization calculations with theoretical system models include a reflector diameter of 2.7 x 1.4 m (elliptical), a convergence distance of 1.5 m, and an offset angle of 32 deg.
