Grain-oriented silicon steel sheets
Abstract
A historical review of developments in commercial production of grain-oriented silicon-iron since its inception in 1940 is presented. Improvements in degree of {110}<001> orientation, purity and reduced thickness have been the principal means of attaining lower total losses. Factors affecting losses and choices of materials are discussed in the light of lower design inductions of transformers resulting from increased energy costs.
