VLF receiving directivity pattern of electric and magnetic dipoles in magnetoactive plasma
Abstract
An analysis of changes in antenna patterns brought about by random wave fields shows that antenna patterns both electric and magnetic in a magnetoactive plasma substantially differ from those in an isotropic medium. The antenna patterns are found to depend on the wave propagation direction angle, wave frequency, and the orientation of the receiving antenna with regard to the propagation direction and geomagnetic field. Results of the analysis suggest that in order to estimate the complete wave field amplitude, results obtained by means of one antenna should be multiplied by 1.41. Results also indicate that the minima in the patterns are well pronounced even if the wave vector orientation displays great fluctuations.
