Characteristics of multiple muons with energies exceeding 35 and 85 GeV
Abstract
Results are presented on the spatial, energy, and intensity characteristics of multiple muons with energies exceeding 35 and 85 GeV at various zenith angles. Measurements were performed using eight-layer spark chambers located 200 mwe underground. The data confirm the substantial growth in energy and the high intensity of multiple muons at large angles to the vertical, as well as the sharp increase in the I(64 deg)/I(0 deg) intensity ratio with increasing mean multiple-muon energy.
