An experimental study of a turbulent jet in a turbulent cross flow
Abstract
A round turbulent jet issuing at a right angle from a hole in a screen into a cross flow having a turbulence of 10% has been investigated experimentally for flow-to-jet velocity ratios of 0.07 and 0.02. Static pressure distributions on the screen in the vicinity of the jet have been determined along with mean velocity vector profiles and total and static pressure profiles in jet cross sections located at 1, 2, 4, 6, and 10 nozzle diameters downstream of the screen. Jet boundaries have been obtained from total pressure profiles. It is shown that flow turbulence has little effect on jet propagation.
