A generalized 'polarity-type' Costas loop for tracking MPSK signals
Abstract
A simple loop structure is proposed for tracking MPSK signals at high SNR which uses multilevel limiters in the arms to provide the I and Q projections of the data needed for data wipeoff. The S-curves for the high SNR and low SNR loops are compared in order to determine whether the two are equivalent. The results presented should help the designer determine which loop structure to use. The proposed multilevel limiter loop is also suitable for digital implementation.
