Operational broadcasting satellite in Japan
Abstract
An outline of the Japanese Broadcasting Satellite-2 (BS-2) program, a satellite broadcasting system using K-band frequencies, is presented, including the mission objectives, spacecraft, ground system, and home receiver. The BS-2 program planned to become operational in 1984-1985, is designed to provide operational broadcasting satellite service for mountainous areas and remote islands of Japan, to develop some advanced service with the satellite, and to acquire the technology of the broadcasting satellite. Block diagrams of the satellite system and the communication transponder, as well as summaries of the system parameters for the satellite and the earth stations, are given. In addition, the planned features of the operation and control facilities at Telesat Japan, located near Tokyo, are discussed.
