High definition television broadcasting by satellite
Abstract
The results of transmission tests for the YC-separate transmission system for High-definition television (HDTV) carried out by the Japanese Medium-scale Broadcasting Satellite for Experimental Purpose are presented. In addition, two other transmission systems which could replace the YC-separate transmission system, a Time Compressed Integration (TCI) signal transmission system and a transmission system employing an interlace conversion technique, are evaluated. It is concluded that HDTV broadcasting by satellite is technically feasible. It is found that a bandwidth of 60 MHz is required for HDTV using the parameter values for the TCI transmission system for a 1125-line signal.
