Simple formulas for transmission through periodic metal grids or plates
Abstract
The transmission of electromagnetic waves through a thin screen made of periodic grids or plates, having applications as diverse as antenna radomes, microwave frequency selective surfaces, laser mirrors and solar filters, is characterized by a simple, closed form approximate solution for the transmission coefficient of a normally incident plane wave. Explicit formulas are also given for cascading screens and dielectric slabs. Good numerical accuracy is established through comparisons with exact solutions.
