On the gain of the free electron laser /FEL/ amplifier for a nonmonoenergetic beam
Abstract
The exact solution of the beam evolution equation is employed for an accurate analysis of gain and of electron beam evolution in a free electron laser in terms of laser field intensity and electron beam initial momentum distribution. Also investigated is the effect of the energy spread in both the small signal and saturation regimes. The present results are in agreement with those of Hopf et al (1976) and Louisell et al (1979).
