Iron diiodide photodissociation laser
Abstract
Lasing on 11 transitions of neutral iron (six of which have not been reported previously) is observed when iron diiodide (FeI2) is photodissociated at 193 nm (ArF laser). The lasing wavelengths span the visible spectrum, extending from 466 to 794 nm. Although the maximum laser energy output of approximately 1 micro J (all lines) occurs at approximately 825 K, stimulated emission is observed for temperatures as low as 720 K.
