Gain-optimized CO2 waveguide laser
Abstract
The gain of CO2 waveguide lasers was measured for a wide range of He:CO2 ratios and total gas pressures. It was found that maximum gain occurs at relatively low pressures. To minimize laser discharge length it is advantageous to operate in this high gain, low pressure regime even at the expense of a reduction in saturation intensity which falls off quadratically with gas pressure.
