Studies of semiconductor lasers of the interferometric and ring types
Abstract
The scattering-matrix formulation is used in an analysis of interferometric and ring-type semiconductor lasers, with a view to the identification of uses for semiconductor lasers other than the customary ones of sources of coherent radiation. The results of experiments conducted have substantiated theoretical predictions of usefulness in wavelength stabilization, tuning and switching, feedback effect reduction, and traveling wave operation in fiber optics communication and integrated optics devices. The scattering-matrix formulation employed in the present work is shown to be useful in the treatment of other complex laser structures and of lasers in optical networks.
