Optical FM signal amplification by injection locked and resonant type semiconductor laser amplifiers
Abstract
Semiconductor laser optical FM signal amplification is investigated with attention to bandwidth characteristics, for the cases of a laser operating in either injection-locked or resonant amplification mode depending on whether the drive current is kept above, or just below, its threshold value. Modulation sideband reduction is used to evaluate the bandwidths of both amplifiers, and to compare these bandwidths with those measured statically by scanning the incident CW wave frequency. A 25 GHz gain bandwidth product is obtained for both operation modes through the use of a double-heterostructure AlGaAs laser.
