Vertical displacements of stratification in the E-layer during sunrise
Abstract
Results are presented of an analysis of ionospheric parameters in the case of vertical displacements of the E2-layer and single and multiple stratifications of the E-layer during sunrise. It is found that the electron density undergoes faster and smaller-scale variations at heights below the E-layer than at heights above the E-layer, where the density gradient is stabler and smaller. The period of electron-density variation appears to coincide with the period of gravity waves. It is noted that a possible mechanism responsible for the wavelike behavior of electron density in the E-region is an effect accompanying the passage of the terminator.
