Mode locking of Brewster-angled semiconductor lasers
Abstract
A description is given of an experimental study of mode locking, using Brewster-angled-geometry semiconductor laser diodes. The semiconductor laser diodes have been actively mode locked in an external cavity to produce mode-locked pulses of 11 ps duration and 0.5 W peak power with no evidence of temporal or spectral substructure. A GaAlAs DH laser-diode was used in the experiments. Temporal and spectral features were investigated for the mode-locked Brewster-angled laser system. The laser pulse duration was measured with an S2O Photochron 1 streak camera, operated without any additional intensification at half the laser pulse repetition frequency to give a temporal resolution of 7 ps.
