IUE observations of classical cepheids.
Abstract
The impact of IUE low and high dispersion UV spectroscopy on studies of Cepheid chromospheres, blue companions of Cepheids, and on mass determinations for Cepheids is discussed. Results for R Mus, V 810 Cen, and S Mus are presented. While the single star R Mus offers the possibility to study the Cepheid low resolution UV spectrum from 1200 to 3200 A, both V 810 Cen and S Mus have hot blue companions. Star S Mus is proposed as a candidate for a direct mass determination, using IUE high dispersion short wavelength spectra.
