A multispectral optical radiometer for ocean studies
Abstract
Scientific and technical specifications for an Ocean Color Monitor for an ESA spacecraft intended for remote sensing of the earth oceans are presented. The radiometer is required to scan in the wavelength range 400-12,000 nm with 800 m resolution, thereby detecting targets from yellow to IR, the ocean surface temperature. Methods of subtracting atmospheric signals from the luminance tracked by the instrument are discussed, and it is noted that a total of 52 detectors will each require separate amplifiers on board. Finally, the limits of resolution, polarization, and detection are detailed, and a modulation transfer function is defined.
