High-frequency longitudinal wave propagation in a rectangular waveguide
Abstract
The high-frequency behavior of longitudinal modes in a rectangular waveguide is studied on the basis of an exact solution to a three-dimensional elasticity problem. It is shown that, irrespective of the aspect ratio, the first mode develops into a flexural wedge-shaped mode with a right angle at its apex rather than becoming a Rayleigh wave as it does in the two-dimensional case.
