Nonlinear problem of the diffraction of an intense electromagnetic wave by an open cylinder containing a plasma
Abstract
An analysis is presented of the nonlinear problem of the diffraction of an intense electromagnetic wave by a cylinder having a narrow slit and containing a plasma whose properties are determined by the wave field. The method of the Riemann-Hilbert problem is used to determine the field structure and the conditions of resonant excitation of the cylinder. As an example, attention is given to the generation of a plasma by a high-frequency ionizing electromagnetic wave in a cylinder with a narrow slit in conditions of resonance at the axisymmetric field harmonic.
