An improved turbulent mixing model
Abstract
It is shown that Curl's (1963) model and the modified Curl model lead to standardized asymptotic probability density functions (pdf) with infinite fourth and higher moments. The improved models produce finite moments by changing the age distribution. One model produces a pdf with flatness = 3.12 and superskewness = 16.8, but the model's overall performance is unacceptable. The recommended model, for which the above values are 3.70 and 29.5 respectively, has an asymptotic pdf that is close to Gaussian. The model is presented for the simple case of a single scalar in homogeneous turbulence.
