A numerical study of two dimensional potential flows by boundary and finite elements
Abstract
Two-dimensional potential flows in unbounded domains are investigated numerically by using a hybrid technique combining finite elements with a special boundary element. In this way, the solution is sought over a finite domain and conditions at infinity are represented by a boundary integral equation. It is shown that the problem reduces to that of finding the minimum of a symmetric real-valued functional so that standard numerical algorithms can be successfully used. Numerical examples are given.
