A new transformation and method of solution of laminar boundary layer equations
Abstract
A new transformation and method of solving the laminar boundary layer equations are presented. From the transformed equations, it is shown that the data of a particular problem appear only in the form of what is called a principal function, which plays the role of a parametric functional coefficient in the new equation. It is also shown, from a number of exact solutions, that the skin friction factor at a specific station of the boundary layer is determined mainly by the local value of the principal function, in addition to the new longitudinal coordinate. The method outlined here greatly simplifies the calculation of skin friction. Examples illustrating the accuracy and simplicity of the method are included.
