A complete sample of intermediate-strength radio sources selected from the GB/GB2 1400-MHz surveys. I. Radio spectra and optical identifications of sources stronger than 0.55 Jy.
Abstract
This paper presents a complete sample of 237 radio sources selected at 1400 MHz and comprising all sources stronger than 0.55 Jy from the GB (Maslowski 1972) and GB2 (Machalski l978b) Green Bank surveys. The sample is complete over an area of 0.44 sr for which bII > +20°. All sources from the sample have been observed with the NRAO 92-m or Effelsberg l00-m radio telescopes at the frequency of about 5 GHz. Their spectra and the present status of their optical identifications are summarized (59% of the sources are identified). A bibliography of references to other flux density measurements and previous identifications, as well as to existing finding charts, structure maps, and redshifts is given. The identification content and radio spectral properties of the sample are compared with corresponding characteristics of other samples, selected at 408, 1400, and 5000 MHz, and containing radio sources of comparable or 2-mag greater strength.
