Neutrino cyclotron radiation from superfluid vortexes in neutron stars - A new mechanism for pulsar spin down
Abstract
A new type of pulsar emission and spin down mechanism by neutrino cyclotron emission from neutron superfluid vortexes in the interior of the star is proposed. The effects of the mechanism, called neutrino cyclotron radiation, are discussed, its power is calculated, and the increased rate of the pulsar spindown is derived. For pulsars with short periods the spin down rotation is mainly caused by the dissipation of electromagnetic radiation, and for those with long periods, it is mainly caused by the dissipation of neutrino radiation. The importance of the neutrino emission mechanism is demonstrated for old pulsars and very young pulsars.
