Radiation heat transfer notes
Abstract
Radiation heat transfer in thermal design is considered along with thermodynamic surfaces and surface systems, radiant intensity and flux, black-body radiation, and fractional functions. Surface radiation characteristics are examined, taking into account absorption and emission characteristics, the measurement of reflection and transmission characteristics, electromagnetic theory and the Fresnel relations, polarization, and some useful approximations. Radiation transfer between perfectly diffuse surfaces is discussed, giving attention to shape factors, radiosity-irrigation formulations, refractory surfaces, the radiation network, diffuse-walled passages, specular and imperfectly diffuse surfaces, the mirror image concept, the Monte Carlo algorithm, and surface models. Other subjects investigated are related to gas radiation properties, radiation transfer with an isothermal gas, and nonisothermal gas radiation.
