Infrared laser induced organic reactions
Abstract
The competiton among activation, deactivation and unimolecular chemical reaction in laser irradiated organic vapors was investigated. The following compounds were studied; vinylcyclopropane; bicyclopropyl-d4; diethylcarbonate-d5. Details of these investigations are provided. As an outgrowth of these experiments, single photon vibrational overtone excitation of organic molecules was also investigated. Infrared laser activation of mechanically more complex reactions were investigated. These were laser induced reactions in gas/solid mixtures (surface chemistry of graphite and 2-propanol/CuO), and laser-induced chemiluminescence (octane decomposition).
