Transition in flow between rotating concentric cylinders
Abstract
Recent experimental and theoretical work on the instabilities and transitions of a viscous incompressible fluid between concentric rotating cylinders is reviewed. Particular attention is given to laser-Doppler studies of dynamical instabilities and transition to chaotic Taylor vortex flow. It is pointed out that most transitions and phenomena such as remergent spectral peaks depend strongly on the radius ratio and the aspect ratio.
