Synthesizer stability evaluation
Abstract
An accurate and simple technique for measuring rms phase noise as a function of integration time for offset frequencies (0.001 Hz) close to the carrier is described. The accuracy of this method is verified by Allan variance measurements in the time domain and through the use of Hadamard variance for generating high-resolution spectral density measurements. Two different synthesizers are evaluated and the results are presented.
