Methods for speckle filtering
Abstract
Adaptive filters, to aid in the detection of boundaries and segmentation of imagery into homogenous areas, are studied. Distance from center adaption, adaption through reordering and fitting plane gradient adaption, are treated. A series of filters were tested over an agricultural area. They all smoothed homogenous areas while preserving sharp borders. Computational measurement of performance cannot be achieved by pure image processing methods independent of a given application.
