Experimental methods in separated flows
Abstract
Experimental methods in separated flows are discussed. It is concluded that: flow visualization is useful as an initial study of flow distribution, but that it has limited quantitative value; the laser doppler anemometer is well suited for measuring velocities in separated flows and should be used where possible; frequency shifting is a necessity in separated flows; and accurate measurements of reattachment length are possible with the laser Doppler anemometer.
