The physics of radio wave absorption
Abstract
Various aspects of the physical causes of radio wave absorption in the ionosphere are reviewed. The theory for propagation of radio waves through a partially ionized atmosphere is developed. Physical models of the D region and lower E layer that may explain the observed variation of absorption are discussed.
